Krishna Handicraft

If you walk down Jagdish Marg and find Mayur Cafe, we are just right across from it. Krishna Handicraft is a small spot, but we pack a lot into it. The street outside is usually full of tourists and cows, so there is always something to look at from the doorway. We spend a lot of time dusting the wooden statues and the fabric pieces because the road dust gets into everything. It’s a bit of an old building, so the walls have some character, you could say. We try to keep the shop looking decent, but it's hard when you have new stock arriving and nowhere to put the crates. Mostly, we just talk to whoever wanders in. Some people stay for an hour just looking at the carvings, others just want a quick souvenir. We’ve got the regular routine of opening the shutters early and staying until the sun goes down and the street lights come on. It gets pretty hot in the middle of the day, so we usually sit near the back where it’s a bit cooler. We don’t do any of that high-pressure selling; it’s just not our way. We just show what we have and let people decide. It’s been our life for a good while now, and we know the neighborhood pretty well by now. The tea man comes by twice a day, which is the highlight for us.
