You can find us at number 72 on the Bypass Road in Mannargudi. Being on the bypass means there is always a bit of a hum from the passing buses and trucks. The school has been here for a good while, and the building shows its age in a comfortable sort of way. We have a large entrance where the students line up in the mornings. The stairs are worn down in the middle from all the feet walking up and down them every day. We have several floors of classrooms, and the ones at the top get a nice view of the surrounding trees. It’s a matriculation school, so we follow the standard curriculum without adding too many frills. The staff room is a busy place where there is always a stack of papers waiting to be graded. We use chalkboards mostly, and the dust gets on everything, but it feels right. During the rainy season, we have to watch out for leaks in the older part of the roof, but we usually get it patched up quickly enough. The kids are local, and they bring a lot of energy to the place, even on the hot afternoons when the air feels heavy. We don't try to impress anyone with big speeches or fancy brochures. We just show up, do our jobs, and help the kids get through their exams. It’s a steady, predictable life here on the bypass.
