New Light Senior Secondary School

New Light Senior Secondary School is located at 1877/2 Mela Veethi in Thanjavur. We are right in the heart of the town, which means there is always something going on outside our doors. The building is older, like many things in Thanjavur, and it has a lot of character. We’ve got high ceilings in some of the rooms which helps keep it cool during the summer months. There is a lot of history in this part of town, and you can feel it when you walk down Mela Veethi. Our school day starts pretty early. We spend our time managing classes and making sure the building stays clean. It’s a lot of sweeping and dusting because of the road traffic nearby. We have a small courtyard where we gather sometimes. The bells we use are old-fashioned, and they make a loud clanging sound that everyone in the block can hear. We don't use any fancy computer systems for everything; we still like our paper ledgers and hand-written notes. It feels more real that way. Sometimes the water pump acts up and we have to fix it before the day gets going. It’s just the usual routine of keeping a school running in an old city. We have a mix of teachers, some who have been here forever and some who are just starting out. It’s a steady place to be.
