Gandhi Mission International School

The school is located at No 100 on the road that goes from Thanjavur to Kumbakonam. It’s in the Mathur area, which is a bit of a trek from the main town centers. Being on the highway means we see a lot of traffic passing by all the time. The school grounds are fairly open, giving us more space than you might find in a city school. We have several buildings where the different grades have their classes. Inside, the rooms are pretty standard with rows of desks and blackboards. The air out here in Mathur feels a bit different than in the middle of Thanjavur. We have a few trees and some patches of grass where the students can sit during their lunch breaks. The morning starts with everyone arriving on buses or cycles. It’s a long day for many of the students who travel from the surrounding villages. We keep things pretty simple here. There aren't any flashy decorations, just the usual school equipment and some student work pinned to the boards. The teachers have their own small area to sit and mark papers between their classes. It’s a quiet place for the most part, once the lessons are in progress. We just go about our business day by day, making sure the schedule is followed and the gates are locked at night after everyone has left for home.
