Pankit Gems

At Pankit Gems, we are up on the 7th floor of Shreenathji Apartment, right in the Haripura Hat Faliya area. It’s one of those older parts of the city where the streets are a bit narrow and you have to know where you’re going to find the right turn. Being on the 7th floor gives us a bit of a view of the rooftops, though we spend most of our time hunched over the worktables. The light in the room is really important for what we do with the stones, so we’re always adjusting the lamps to see better. Haripura has its own rhythm, and you can hear the sounds of the neighborhood coming up from the street even all the way up here. We’ve been in this spot for a bit now, and the neighbors in the building are mostly used to us by now. It’s a small team here, just a few of us who know the daily routine. We usually start the day with some tea and a quick talk about what needs to be handled before the evening. Sometimes the elevator acts up, so we end up taking the stairs, which is quite a workout. There’s always a bit of dust around from the work, but we try to keep the tools clean. It’s just a plain apartment converted into a workspace, nothing like those big corporate offices you see in magazines. We just focus on the gems and getting through the work.
