Khushboo Garlic

If you come down to the Vip Market on Moti Talav Road, you’ll find us right there in the middle of the bustle. We are in the Kumbharwada area, not too far from Shivaji Circle. This place is all about garlic. From the moment you get close to our stall, the smell is everywhere. We deal with big sacks of garlic that come in early every morning from the farmers. My hands always smell like garlic, no matter how much I wash them at the end of the day. It is a messy job, sorting through the bulbs to find the ones that are good and pulling away the dry skin. The market is a noisy place with people shouting and carts moving around all the time. We start our day while most people are still sleeping, just to make sure we are ready when the retail buyers show up. It’s a simple business. We buy the garlic, we clean it up a bit, and we sell it. There’s no fancy equipment here, just some scales and a lot of floor space for the bags. Sometimes the rain makes the market floor muddy, which makes things harder, but we just put down some boards and keep moving. We’ve been at this spot near Shivaji Circle for a long time and the other traders are like family to us. It’s hard work and long hours, but it is what we know.
