Jain Rice Mill is located out at Plot No.-22 and 23 in Maniba Nagar. We are right behind the Bunty Guest House, which is a good landmark if you are driving along Nh-6. Being out here in Fort Songadh in the Tapi district means we are pretty close to the main roads, which helps with the trucks coming in. The mill itself is a noisy place once the machines get started in the morning. There is always a layer of fine dust from the rice husks hanging in the air, but you get used to it after working here for a few weeks. We spend a lot of time moving heavy sacks around and making sure the processing equipment is actually doing what it’s supposed to do. It’s hard work and it gets very hot under the tin roof during the summer months. We don't have any fancy office space, just a small corner where we keep the books and take our breaks. Most of the guys here have been working with grain for a long time, so they know the sound the machines make when something isn’t right. We deal with the local farmers and the transport guys mostly. It’s a lot of manual labor, loading and unloading, and checking the quality of the paddy that comes in. We just focus on keeping the mill running and getting the rice packed up for the next destination. It’s a simple life out here.
