Tewari Sweets

Lajpat Nagar II is always moving, and our shop at O 3 B is right in the thick of it. If you walk by in the morning, you can smell the sugar and the frying long before you see the sign for Tewari Sweets. We don’t have much room inside, so things get pretty tight when the lunch crowd starts arriving. We’ve got these big glass cases that we spend half the day cleaning because of all the fingerprints. It’s just how it goes when you have so many people coming through. The staff here has been together for years, so we have a rhythm. One person handles the packing, another handles the cash, and we try not to trip over each other. It’s not a polished corporate place. We use big heavy pans and old-style recipes that haven't really changed since we started. Sometimes we run out of the popular stuff by the afternoon, and people get a bit annoyed, but we can only make so much at a time in the back. The street outside is always blocked with cars and rickshaws, so getting deliveries in is a nightmare every day. But we like it here. It’s a busy corner and there is always something happening. We don't do fancy ads or commercials. People just know we are here. We just try to keep the floors clean and the food fresh, day after day, for whoever stops by.
