Banty Halwai

My name's Banty, and we've been running Banty Halwai here at T-44 in Ward No-5, Mehrauli for a good while now. It’s just a regular shop where we make sweets and snacks every morning. You can find us right in the heart of the neighborhood. People usually stop by when they’re walking through the market or coming home from work. We don't have anything fancy going on, just the usual stuff you'd expect from a local halwai. We wake up early to get the stove going and start frying things up. It gets pretty busy around festival times, but most days it's just the regulars who live around Mehrauli coming in for a bit of something sweet or a quick bite. The shop isn't big, but we keep it clean and do our work the same way we always have. Sometimes the weather makes things tough, or the supplies are late, but we just keep at it. We've seen a lot of changes in the street outside, but we're still here in the same spot. If you're ever around Ward No-5, you'll probably see us working. There’s no big story behind it, just a family business trying to make a living and keep the locals fed. We focus on the daily stuff, making sure the milk is fresh and the sugar is right. It's hard work, standing by the hot pans all day, but it’s what we know. We don't have much to say about ourselves, we just keep the fryer hot and the syrup ready.
