New Punjabi Sweets

New Punjabi Sweets has been at C 222 in Lajpat Nagar II for a long time. It’s a family-run kind of thing. We spend our days around big vats of milk and sugar. Lajpat Nagar is always crowded, especially near the market areas, so there's always someone walking by. Our shop isn't very large. We have the glass counters filled with whatever we made that morning. We don't have a PR person or a social media manager. We just stand behind the counter and talk to the customers. Most of the people who come in live just a few streets away. We’ve seen kids grow up and start coming in with their own children. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting heavy trays and keeping everything fresh. The floor gets a bit sticky sometimes but we try to stay on top of it. We don't use any fancy packaging, just the standard boxes. It’s a simple life. We start early in the morning before the sun is even up. By the time the market opens, we're ready. We don't have any big slogans. We just sell sweets. It’s a basic business in a busy part of Delhi. If you’re around C 222, you’ll probably smell what we're cooking. We just keep at it, day after day. It’s not always easy keeping up with the demand during festivals, but we do our best to get everyone their orders.
