Lakshmi Sweets

We have been at number 17 in Guru Nanak Market for a long time now. It is right in the middle of Lajpat Nagar, so it gets pretty busy around here especially in the evenings when everyone is out shopping. Lakshmi Sweets is just a small place, really. We start early in the morning, getting the milk and sugar ready for the day’s batches. Some days are harder than others, like when the festival season hits and we can barely keep up with the orders. You can usually find us behind the counter or near the back where the big pans are. The market has changed quite a bit over the years, but we are still in the same spot. People come in for a quick bite or to take something home for their families after work. It’s a lot of work, keeping everything fresh and making sure the trays are full. Sometimes we run out of stuff before the day is over, but that’s just how it goes. The floors get sticky and the air smells like frying oil and cardamom most of the time.
