Kadimi Sweet Shop

We sit right on Central Road in Bhogal, at number 38. It’s a noisy part of Jangpura, with cars honking and people constantly moving past the door. The shop has been here for a long time, and the walls have seen a lot of history. We have a few benches for people to sit, though they’re usually occupied by folks waiting for their orders. The glass cases are always smudged with fingerprints from people pointing at what they want. We don't mind it much. My uncle started this place and now a few of us cousins keep it going. We handle all the prep work ourselves, from sorting the ingredients to the final cooking. It’s a lot of physical work and your back starts to feel it by the end of the shift. We aren't trying to be the most modern shop on the block. We like the old tiles and the way the light hits the front window in the evening. Some days we are so busy we barely have time to take a break, while other days are slow enough to read the newspaper. We just take it as it comes. The neighborhood has changed a lot, but we try to keep things the way they’ve always been inside these walls. It’s just honest work making things that people enjoy eating. We stay open until the last tray is empty.
