Bikaner Namkeen Bhandar

Bikaner Namkeen Bhandar is located in Alaknanda Market at A 1, G 3. We do not sell many sweets here; our main thing is namkeen and other salty snacks. We have rows and rows of large glass jars filled with different mixtures and fried lentils. Some of them are very spicy and the smell of the chili can make you cough if you are not used to it. We use an old manual scale to weigh everything out into plastic bags. It is a bit slow but it works fine for us. My brother and I run the place together and we have been here since the market was first built. The floor is usually covered in crumbs by the end of the day, no matter how many times we sweep it up. We do all the frying in a separate room in the back so the shop doesn't get too oily. It is hard work standing on your feet all day long. We have many regulars who live in the apartments nearby and come in every evening to get something for their tea. We do not have any tables for sitting. It is strictly a walk-in shop. We don't spend money on advertising or fancy signs. Most people find us just by walking through the market. We just make sure the snacks are crunchy and that the jars stay full. It is a simple way to make a living.
