Karaikudi Family Mess

We are located at the KAK Complex on Attur Main Road. It’s right near the Seelanaickenpatti Roundana, which is always full of trucks and cars going every which way. Being a family mess means we keep things pretty basic. It’s like eating at someone’s house, but with more tables. We make sure there’s plenty of rice and the gravy is hot. My mother still checks the recipes to make sure we aren’t getting lazy with the spices. Salem can be a very hot place, so we make sure the water is always cold. The building is a bit old, but we keep it clean. We don't have a menu that changes every day. We just do what we do. Most of our customers are drivers passing through or people who live in the neighborhood. They don't want anything fancy, just a good meal before they get back on the road. I handle the morning shift and my cousin takes over in the evening. We don't spend money on advertising. Word of mouth has always been enough for us. Sometimes we run out of food earlier than expected, and we just have to close up. That’s just how it goes when you cook fresh every day. We like the noise of the traffic and the busy feel of the roundana. It makes the day go by faster. We stay busy and don't worry about much else.
