The Grand Thakar Restaurant

The Grand Thakar Restaurant sits right on Jawahar Road in Rajkot. We are directly opposite Jubeli Garden, which is a nice landmark if you're trying to find us. Most people in Rajkot know this part of town because of the garden. We’ve been here for a long time, and the building has seen a lot of years. The day starts with someone opening the heavy shutters. It’s usually a bit dusty in the mornings, so the first thing we do is a lot of cleaning. We have long tables because we get groups often. The kitchen is always the busiest part of the building. You can hear the pots and pans clinking from the back. We don't really use a lot of fancy equipment, just the stuff that works. Our staff knows most of the regular customers by name. It’s a busy road, so there is always a lot of noise from the cars and rickshaws outside. We just keep our heads down and do our jobs. People come in, they sit down, they eat, and they go. We don't have a lot of wall decorations or anything, just the basics. It feels like a home kitchen sometimes because of how we talk to each other. Rajkot is a busy city, and Jawahar Road is right in the middle of it all. We’re just glad to have a spot here where we can work every day and see the city move by.
