Shishmahal Restaurant

Shishmahal Restaurant is part of the Heritage Khirasara Palace out on Kalawad Road. We are near the Metoda GIDC area which is quite far from the center of Rajkot. Because we are in an old palace building, the walls are thick and the ceilings are high which keeps things relatively cool even when it is hot outside. It is a heritage property so there is a lot of history in the stones here. We serve people who are staying at the palace and also folks who drive out from the city for a meal. Being near the GIDC means we sometimes get people coming in after a long day of work at the industrial estate. The kitchen focuses on traditional dishes that fit the setting. It is not a fast-paced place; things move a bit slower out here which I think people appreciate. You can see the gardens and the old architecture while you eat. We have to bring in most of our supplies from the main markets in Rajkot because we are tucked away. It is a quiet spot compared to the restaurants in the middle of town. We just try to keep the place running well and make sure everyone who makes the trip out here gets a good meal. It is a bit of a drive but the road is mostly straight. I guess it is just a different way to experience a meal in this part of Gujarat.
