Shree Naresh Gul Udyog

The place is right here at Plot 92 in Taleranwadi. My family has been working around Daund for quite some time now, mostly dealing with the sugarcane that comes in from the nearby fields. It gets really hot in the shed when the juice is boiling down to make the gul. You can smell it from the road when we have a batch going. We don’t have fancy machines, just the usual crushers and the big pans where the liquid turns thick and brown. Some days the labor doesn’t show up on time and things get a bit backed up, but we manage. My father started this and now I spend most of my mornings checking the quality of the blocks. It’s hard work and your hands get sticky, but it is what it is. People from the Pune district know where to find us if they need a bulk load for the season. We keep the place as clean as we can, though with all that sugar and steam, it’s a constant battle against the flies. The trucks come and go on the dirt track outside. Sometimes we sit out front and have tea while waiting for the next load of cane to arrive. It’s a quiet life in the taluka, just making jaggery and keeping the udyog running day after day without much fuss or noise.
