Nath Masale

Nath Masale is a small operation located in Somwar Peth. We are right in the heart of the 41276 area. The first thing you notice when you get close to our shop is the smell. It is a mix of ground coriander, cumin, and very strong red chilies. It can make you sneeze if you aren't used to it, but to me, it just smells like work. We spend our days cleaning the raw spices, drying them out, and then putting them through the grinding machines. The noise of the grinders is pretty loud, so we have to shout a bit to hear each other. We don't have any fancy packaging with bright colors or fake promises. We just put the powder into clear bags and tie them up. People in Somwar Peth know where we are and they come to us because they know what they are getting. The shop floor is always a little stained with the colors of the spices, especially the turmeric, which turns everything yellow. It is hard work and the dust gets into your clothes and hair, but there is something satisfying about seeing the finished product. We don't have a big team, just a couple of us working the machines and helping the customers who walk in. It’s a simple, local business that has been doing the same thing the same way for a long time.
