Jindal Spices

Jindal Spices is located over on J.N. Marg near Karve Road, specifically at Prabhat Road 407. If you walk past, you can usually smell the pepper and turmeric before you even see the door. The shop is full of bags and jars, and sometimes the air gets a bit dusty from all the grinding. It makes you sneeze if you aren't used to it. We’ve been handling spices for a long time. It’s a family thing, mostly. We don’t have those fancy pre-packaged boxes you see in the big supermarkets. Most of what we have is kept in larger containers and we weigh it out for whoever comes in. The wooden counter is worn down from years of bags being dragged across it. Prabhat Road is a nice area, but our shop is pretty basic. We don’t have bright lights or loud music. It’s just the sound of the weighing scale and people asking for half a kilo of this or that. Sometimes we run out of something and have to tell people to come back tomorrow. It’s not a perfect system, but it’s how we’ve always done it. My father still comes in to check the books, even though he's supposed to be retired. We just keep things moving, one bag at a time. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from morning till late evening. The shelves are made of heavy wood and they've started to sag a bit under the weight. We have a small stool that everyone uses to reach the top, and its legs are a bit wobbly. Sometimes the bags of chilies make everyone's eyes water.
