O Zone

O Zone is tucked away in The Meridian Mall on VIP Road in Kolkata. We are in the Deshbandhunagar area, which is a busy part of the city. Being in a mall is different from being on a regular street. We don't have to worry about the rain or the dust as much, but we have the constant sound of the air conditioning and the music from the other shops. We are right across from the Big Bazar in Raghunathpur, so we see a lot of people carrying heavy shopping bags. They often look tired and just want a place to sit down for a few minutes. Our space is 1/1a and 1b in the mall. We keep the tables arranged so that families can sit together. It isn't a very large area, but we make use of what we have. The staff spends a lot of time wiping down the glass and making sure the chairs are in the right place. We get a lot of teenagers on the weekends and older couples during the weekdays when it is quieter. We don't have a fancy mission statement or anything like that. We just provide a spot for people to eat something while they are out at the mall. It is a straightforward job. We show up, we serve the customers, and we go home when the mall closes its main doors. Sometimes the mall security comes by for a quick snack too after their shift ends.
