Giani Dhaba

If you are heading down Jessore Road in Kolkata, you will find us right near the Michael Nagar bus stand. Being so close to a bus stand means there is never really a dull moment around here. There is always someone coming or going, and the sidewalk is usually full. We have been in this spot for a long time, and the building shows its age a bit, but we actually like it that way. It is a real dhaba. We have the usual wooden benches and a kitchen that never really seems to stop until very late at night. The smell of woodsmoke and spices is always hanging around the entrance. We get a lot of travelers and local workers who just need a quick, hot bite before they catch their next bus. The noise from Jessore Road is constant, with big trucks and buses rattling past all day and night. We do not have fancy printed menus or air conditioning. It is the kind of place where you just sit down and eat what is fresh. We spend a lot of our time prepping vegetables and making sure the tea is always hot and ready. Sometimes the heavy rain makes the road a bit of a mess, but people still find their way to us. We know most of the bus drivers who stop here regularly. It is a lot of hard work, but we just get on with it.
