RAUTELA Restaurant

Down here on the block road in Bhimtal, things move a bit slower than they do up in the main parts of Nainital. We opened RAUTELA Restaurant right here near the block road because it's a spot where people are always passing by on their way somewhere else. It’s a small place, nothing too special to look at from the outside, but it stays warm inside when the mountain air gets chilly in the evenings. We’ve got a few wooden tables and some benches. Most of the time, it’s just the sound of the kettle boiling or someone chopping onions in the back. Tourists stop by when they get lost looking for the lake, and we usually end up giving them directions along with their meal. The locals come in for their morning tea and stay to talk about whatever is happening in the village. We don’t have a big fancy menu with pictures. It’s just basic food that fills you up. Sometimes the electricity goes out if there’s a storm, and we just light some candles and keep going. It’s part of living in the hills, I guess. We see a lot of the same faces every day, which is nice. We try to keep the place tidy, but with the dust from the road, it’s a constant job. It’s a quiet life here most of the time. We don't really bother with advertising because the word of mouth around Bhimtal usually works well enough for us.
