Gurney House

Gurney House is situated up on the Ayarpatta Slopes in Mallital, as part of The Naini Retreat. Being in Nainital, especially at the 263001 area, means we deal with a lot of hills and a lot of different weather. It is a bit of a climb to get up here, but the air is different than it is down by the lake. We aren't a typical busy street-side shop. Things move a bit slower on the slopes. We spend a lot of our time making sure the building is kept up, as these old places in Nainital need a lot of looking after. The fog rolls in quite often, and it can get cold, so we are always checking on the heating or the roof. It’s not a corporate office or anything like that; it’s just a house with a history that we are part of now. We don’t go around shouting about what we do. People who come to Mallital usually find their way to us eventually. We just keep the place tidy and wait for the guests to arrive. The Ayarpatta area is quiet compared to the main Mall Road, which is how we like it. It’s a lot of maintenance work and staying prepared for the seasons. We just take it one day at a time, keeping the place running as it should. There is always something to fix or paint around here.
