Our group is called Sajuti Women Farmers Producer Companylimited, and we are located in Kanainagar village. You can find us through Bhuban Mondal’s place in the Debpur area of Murshidabad. We are a bunch of women from around here who decided to pool our resources and work the land together. It’s a lot different than working on your own. In Murshidabad, farming is a way of life for almost everyone, but it can be tough to make it pay. We spend our mornings out in the fields and our afternoons sorting out the business side of things. It’s not a corporate office with air conditioning; it’s usually just a room with a fan and some ledgers. We don't have any big advertisements. Word of mouth is how most people find out about what we’re doing in Kanainagar. We deal with the same problems every farmer has—too much rain, not enough rain, or bugs eating the crops. But we handle it together, which makes it a bit easier. We’re just trying to be practical and make sure our families are taken care of. There’s no secret to what we do; it’s just hard work and staying organized. We are glad to be a local group of women making a go of it on our own terms. It’s just a normal part of life for us now.
