Raninagar Sonar Fasal Producer Company Limited is based out in Vill-Chakdiarpara, right at Rabindra Biswas’s place. It’s a quiet spot in Murshidabad, and that’s where we do most of our thinking and planning. We are a producer company, which mostly means a group of us local farmers decided to join up to handle our crops better. We call it Sonar Fasal because the harvest really is like gold to the people living out here. Life in the village moves at its own pace, and our work follows the seasons. When the rain comes, everything changes, and when it’s harvest time, nobody gets much sleep. It isn’t a high-rise office job. We spend a lot of time walking through the fields or sitting on the porch at the house in Chakdiarpara talking about seed prices or the market. Being in West Bengal, we have our challenges with the weather and the roads, but we manage. We aren’t trying to be the biggest company in the world, just trying to make sure the farmers in our little corner of Murshidabad get a fair shake. It’s a lot of paperwork sometimes, which none of us really like, but it’s necessary to keep the company official. We just want to keep the land producing and the families here taken care of without too much fuss. We mostly just talk over tea and get things sorted.
