Yatin Shah Passport Agency is located in Triveni Apartment over in Malad West. We’re in room 202. The Jai Amba Housing Society is the bigger complex around our building. It’s quite close to the SNDT Girls College, so there are always students and groups walking around the area. Our office is small and filled with forms, copies of IDs, and files for different applications. It can get a bit crowded when a few people come in at the same time to ask about their passport status. We have a couple of ceiling fans that stay on all day to keep the heat away, though it still gets warm. The building is an older style apartment block, so it has that familiar smell of stone and old wood. We spend a lot of time checking documents and making sure photos are the right size for the government rules. It’s detail-oriented work, but we do it in a very casual environment. We know most of the people who live in the building and chat with them in the hallway. Sometimes we have to run out to get more photocopies or a fresh ink pad. The Malad traffic outside can be a nightmare in the evenings, so we try to wrap things up before it gets too bad. It’s not a fancy agency with a glass front. It’s just a desk, some chairs, and a lot of patience for the paperwork we handle.
