Our spot is on the third floor of the Dhirubhai Parekh building at 134 Kalbadevi. If you know this part of the city, you know how the streets are. It’s always a rush outside with the carts and the crowds of people moving back and forth. Getting up to the office takes a minute, especially when the building is full of workers moving stuff around in the hallways. We handle international trade things from here. It’s mostly phone calls and piles of documents sitting on our desks. The fans keep spinning all day to beat the heat, and there’s usually a half-empty tea glass sitting somewhere. We don't have a fancy lobby or any of that polished stuff. It’s just a workspace where we get our lists and orders sorted out. Dealing with overseas stuff means staying late sometimes because of the time differences in other countries. You look out the window and you just see a lot of rooftops and more offices. It’s not a quiet job, but we’ve been doing this for a long time now. People come in with questions about shipping or customs, and we just tell them what we know. The office is a bit old-fashioned and the paint is peeling in a few spots, but it works for us. We spend most of the day looking at spreadsheets or talking to suppliers on the mobile. It’s a lot of back-and-forth communication. Kalbadevi has its own rhythm, and we are just one part of that third-floor bustle.
