Saibaba Watch Co has been in Worli West for a while now. It’s a simple place. We deal with all sorts of watches, from the ones that cost a lot to the old ones people find in their drawers. Worli is a fast place, but inside here, things move slowly. You have to be careful when you are picking at a tiny screw. If it drops on the floor, it's gone. We spend a lot of time searching for parts that don't exist anymore. Some people come in just to ask the time, which is funny because we have clocks everywhere. The air in Worli West is salty sometimes because of the sea. We have to keep things clean so the metal doesn't get ruined. It’s a lot of sitting and squinting. My eyes get tired by the evening. I’ve seen kids grow up and bring their own kids here to get a battery changed. That’s just how it goes in a neighborhood shop. We don’t have a big fancy showroom. It’s just a counter and some shelves. We do the work and hand the watch back. Hopefully, it keeps ticking for another few years. That’s the goal every morning when I open the shutters. Just another day in Worli, fixing what’s broken and making sure people aren't late for whatever they have to do. It is a bit of a repetitive life but it is honest work for us to keep the neighborhood moving.
