You can find Popular Watch & Moble right opposite the Topiwala Complex, inside the Topiwala Co-Op Housing Society in Goregaon West. It’s a very local kind of spot. We aren’t on the main highway, but there’s always people moving around this part of Goregaon. The shop is pretty basic. We deal with watches and mobile phones because that’s what people need fixed these days. Most of our day is spent squinting at small parts or trying to get a phone to turn back on. It’s not a glamorous job, but it fills the time. The housing society around us is full of families who have been here for generations. They know us by name, and we know which watch belongs to which neighbor. We don’t go in for big advertisements or anything. Our sign is simple, and the shop interior is mostly just counters and repair tools. Sometimes the rain leaks in a bit near the door when the monsoon is heavy, and we just put a bucket down and keep working. That’s just how it is here. Goregaon West is a busy place, and being near the Topiwala Complex means there’s never a quiet moment. We like the noise, though. It makes the day go by faster. We just keep our heads down, fix what’s broken, and talk to whoever wanders in for a chat while they wait for their repair to be finished at the housing society shop.
