P K Jain Handicrafts Pvt Ltd is tucked away in Girgaon. We are at 8 Mahalaxmi Bhuvan in an area called Kumartukda. It is one of those old Mumbai neighborhoods where the lanes are narrow and the buildings have a lot of history. Being in the handicraft business means our space is usually filled with boxes and items waiting to be sorted. It’s a bit dusty sometimes because of all the packing materials we use. We deal with various artisans and people who make things by hand. The atmosphere in Girgaon is very traditional, and you can hear the bells from the local temples in the morning. Our office isn't very large, so things tend to get cramped when a new shipment arrives. We have to move chairs around just to find space to stand. Most of the staff has been with us for a long time. We drink a lot of tea and talk about the weather or how the local trains are running late again. It is a simple way of living and working. We don't use much technology besides the basic stuff needed to keep the records straight. People stop by sometimes just to chat or see what new items have come in. It’s a slow-paced kind of place compared to the rest of the city, and we are quite okay with that.
