We’ve been here at 32 Natraj Market on S V Road in Malad West for quite a long time now. If you know this part of the city, you know how busy it gets around here. Our shop is just one of those small spots that people walk past every day while they’re out shopping or heading home from work. We spend most of our hours sitting behind the glass, looking at tiny gears and hands that stopped moving. It’s quiet work in a loud neighborhood. Malad West has changed a lot since we first started, but the market still feels the same in a way. People come in with watches that belonged to their grandfathers or something they bought last year that just needs a new battery. We don’t have any fancy displays or anything like that. It’s just us, some tools, and a lot of clocks on the walls. Most of our day is spent talking to neighbors or trying to find a part that’s no longer made. We see the same faces every week, mostly folks living nearby who just want their watch to tell the right time again. It isn’t much, but it’s what we do here on S V Road. The lights in Natraj Market stay on late, and we’re usually here until the shutters go down. We don’t really do much else besides this, so we’ve gotten used to the rhythm of the street and the sound of the traffic outside on the road.
