You can find us at 42 Anandilal Podar Marg, right near 1st Marine Street. If you walk past, you’ll probably smell us before you see the sign. The air around here is always thick with the scent of ground peppers, turmeric, and all sorts of other spices. It gets into your clothes and your hair, so you take the business home with you every night whether you want to or not. The building is old and has a lot of character, which is a nice way of saying the floors are uneven and the stairs creak. We spend our days measuring out portions and making sure the spice blends are coming out right. M M Poonjiaji has been a name around here for a long time, but we don't act like a big corporation. Most of the staff have been around so long they’re basically family. We have our tea together and argue about the best way to seal the bags. Marine Street is always busy, and sometimes we just stand by the window for a minute to watch the traffic go by. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting heavy sacks and dusty jars. We don't have a fancy showroom, just a place where the real work happens. It’s honest, it’s messy, and it’s what we do. We just keep the grinders running and make sure the orders are ready on time. Usually, the day ends with us checking the locks and heading out into the evening crowd to catch the bus home.
