Dosti Dry Fruits & Spices

Dosti Dry Fruits & Spices is located inside Crawford Market at shops 283, 493, 494, and 486. It’s a big space because we need it for all the heavy sacks of nuts and spices we keep in stock. The market is always loud and crowded, but we’re used to it. The air around our shop smells strongly of cloves, pepper, and turmeric. Opposite us is Mama Restaurant, which is where we usually grab a quick bite during the day. We’ve been here for many years and it’s a family business. We get all kinds of people coming in. Some just want a small packet of walnuts, while others are buying huge quantities of cashews for a big party. My hands are always a bit stained from the spices and they usually smell like cardamom. We open up early to beat the heat, and we stay until the market closes down at night. It’s a lot of standing and moving heavy bags around, which is tiring for the back. We don't have any fancy labels on our stuff. We just put them in clear bags and weigh them on the scale. Sometimes a shipment of almonds is late and we have to apologize to our regulars, but that’s just life in the market. We keep things simple and try to make sure everything we sell is good. It is a busy life here.
