M. J. Handicrafts

You can find M. J. Handicrafts right on the ground floor of the China Building. It is an old spot on E.R. Road, right in the heart of the Bhendi Bazar area. If you know this part of Mumbai, you know how crowded and loud it gets every single day. There is always someone shouting or a bike honking right outside our front door. Inside, though, it is mostly just us surrounded by all the different items we keep in stock. We deal in various handicrafts, mostly things people use for decorating their homes or giving as gifts. The building itself has been around for ages, and you can tell by the thick walls and the high ceilings. We have been operating out of room 204 for quite some time now. It’s a small space, so we have to stack things pretty high up to the ceiling to make everything fit. Sometimes finding a specific piece for a customer takes a minute because there is so much tucked away in the dusty corners. Life here is fast. Customers come in with all sorts of requests, and we do what we can to help them out. We aren't trying to be some high-end boutique with bright lights. We just sell stuff at a fair price to whoever walks in. Working in Bhendi Bazar means you meet a lot of different people every day. It keeps the job interesting. Lunch is usually something quick from a local stall. By the time we close up, the street is still buzzing.
