Lucknow Chikan Shop

Our shop is called Lucknow Chikan Shop and we are located at No. 14 Nand Prem on Ram Mandir Road. This is in Vile Parle East, a part of the city that is always moving. We have all kinds of Chikan work here, mostly brought in from artisans who know the craft. The shop itself is quite small and the shelves are packed tight with kurtas and fabrics. We spend a lot of our time unfolding things to show customers and then folding them back up again. It’s a lot of manual work. The light in the shop isn't the brightest, but we know our stock well enough to find what anyone is looking for. Ram Mandir Road is always busy, especially during the festival seasons when everyone wants something new to wear. We have been here at Nand Prem for several years now and we have regular customers who come back every time there is a wedding or a function in their family. We don't have a website or anything like that; we just rely on people walking past or hearing about us from their neighbors. It is a very traditional way of running a business. We sit on the floor sometimes to sort through the new arrivals because it is easier. It is just a simple shop in Vile Parle, doing what we know how to do. We keep things going because people still appreciate the handwork and the history.
