You can find Kutch Handicraft in the Mahavir Building in Matunga East. We are very close to the railway station, which makes it easy for people to stop by while they are commuting. The shop is small and full of colors because of the fabrics we use. We mostly have things with traditional embroidery and mirror work. It’s a bit cluttered in here because we have so many different bags and wall hangings squeezed onto the shelves. The building is old, but it has a lot of character. We’ve been here for quite a while now. Most days, we are busy unpacking new stuff that comes in from the artisans or helping a customer pick out a gift. Matunga East is a great area with lots of good food nearby, so we never go hungry. We don’t have a big corporate team, just me and my sister running the place. We do our own accounts and cleaning. It’s a lot of work, but we enjoy being around all these bright patterns. Sometimes the trains are so loud you have to pause your conversation for a second. We don’t mind it. It’s just part of being in this part of Mumbai. We don't try to be anything we aren't. It’s just a shop selling stuff we like. We use old newspaper to wrap the items for customers. It's better than plastic. Our regulars usually come in on Sunday afternoons when the market is at its busiest. It is a good life here.
