Jhaveri Exports

Our office is in the Regal Diamond Centre, which is part of the Prasad Chambers compound over in the Opera House area. If you know anything about the diamond trade in Mumbai, you know this is the heart of it. It’s a very busy, crowded place with people constantly rushing around the hallways with small parcels. We are at unit 216. It’s not a very big space, just enough for our desks, a couple of safes, and the weighing scales. Most of our work involves looking at stones under the loupe and checking the clarity and color. It’s quiet work that requires a lot of concentration. Outside in the compound, there’s always someone shouting or a motorbike revving, but we try to keep it calm inside so we don't make mistakes. We’ve been in this business for a long time, and Jhaveri Exports is basically just us doing what we know best. We drink a lot of tea throughout the day, mostly to stay sharp while we're going through the inventory. We don't have a showroom with fancy displays because we deal with exports and wholesale stuff. It’s all very practical and focused on the stones themselves. Sometimes the paperwork for the customs can be a real pain, but that’s part of the job. We just keep our heads down and get the work done, day after day, without much fuss.
