Jay Crafts

We are tucked away in the Somnath Building, specifically at room 804. It’s near Somaiya College on LBS Marg in Ghatkopar East. The area around Saraswati Chawl is always full of students and local residents walking by. Jay Crafts is a small operation where we spend our time working on various handmade items and materials. It’s not a big factory, just a room where things get made. You’ll find scraps of material and tools scattered on the tables most afternoons. It gets a bit messy when we are in the middle of a project, but that is part of the process. We don’t have a big storefront with glass windows. People usually find us through word of mouth or because they are in the building for something else. Since we are near the college, we see a lot of young people around. The building itself is quite standard for this part of Mumbai, nothing too special to look at from the outside. Inside, we just focus on the craft. Sometimes we run out of certain materials and have to wait for the next delivery to come through the heavy LBS Marg traffic. We don't have a big team, just a few hands making things. It’s a quiet way to earn a living in a very loud city. We just keep making what we can and hope people like what we finish for them.
