Genuine Watch Co.

Genuine Watch Co. is inside the Nawab Building, right at 327 D. N. Road. We are directly opposite the Thomas Cook office. It’s a very old building with high ceilings and thick walls. You can feel the history when you walk in. We spend our time working on watches of all kinds. Some are brand new and others are heirlooms that haven't ticked in years. It’s quiet work that requires a lot of focus. We use small tools and magnifying glasses. My eyes get tired by the end of the day. The street outside is D. N. Road, so it is always busy with people going to the station or their offices. We see the big red buses go past our window all day long. The Nawab Building has a certain smell, like old paper and stone. We have a few glass counters to show the watches we have for sale. It’s not a modern showroom with bright LED lights. It’s more traditional. We have customers who remember my father working here. That's how it goes in this part of Mumbai. We don't rush things. A watch takes as long as it takes to fix. Sometimes we just sit and watch the rain through the window. It’s a steady life. We like being right here opposite Thomas Cook. The old elevator still works but I prefer the wide stairs.
