Bajaj Crafts

Down here at 419-A in the Bharat Industrial Estate, things stay pretty dusty. That’s just the way it is on T.J. Road in Sawree. We’re surrounded by other workshops and small factories, so there’s always the sound of machines or someone unloading a truck right outside our door. At Bajaj Crafts, we spend most of our hours working with our hands. It’s not a clean, white-walled office by any means. There are tools everywhere and scraps of material on the floor by the end of the shift. We usually start early before the sun gets too hot because the industrial estate can get quite stuffy in the afternoons. We’ve been in this same spot for a long time now. The walls are covered in old calendars and notes we’ve scribbled to ourselves over the years. We don’t really have a showroom or anything like that. If someone wants to see what we’re making, they just have to walk into the back where the work is happening. It’s a bit chaotic, but we know where everything is. The tea seller comes by twice a day, and that’s usually when we take a break and sit on the crates outside. It’s a hard-working neighborhood and we fit right in. We just focus on getting the orders out on time and making sure the pieces are put together right. We don't have time for fancy talks, we just like making things that people can use in their daily lives. That is enough for us.
