Ajay Times

We are located in the basement of the Rangolo Time Complex, which most people know as the Premier Cinema building. It’s right on Dr. Ambedkar Road in Parel East. Being in the basement, B 2, means it’s a bit darker and cooler than the street level. You can hear the rumble of the traffic overhead, but it feels far away. At Ajay Times, we are surrounded by clocks and watches. There is always a faint ticking sound if you listen closely. We spend a lot of time with small tools, opening up watch backs and looking at the tiny gears. Parel has changed so much with all the new towers, but this building still feels like the old days. Sometimes people come in with an old watch that belonged to their grandfather, hoping we can make it tick again. We do what we can. The workspace is a bit cluttered with spare parts and old boxes. It’s not a polished showroom; it’s a workshop. My eyes get tired from the magnifying glass, so I have to step out onto the pavement for a bit of sunlight now and then. The Premier Cinema building is a good landmark, so people don’t usually get lost finding us. It’s a quiet life down here in the basement, just us and the passage of time on the dials. We just keep our heads down and focus on the tiny parts in front of us.
