We sit here at 133 Mutton Street most days of the week. It’s a busy part of town in Chor Bazaar, and if you know this area, you know it’s always crowded with people looking for something old or something useful. Being right opposite Bombay Furniture on Sir P M Road means we see a lot of folks walking past every hour. Masjid Bunder West is just like that, never a quiet moment from morning until the shutters go down. We’ve been at this spot for a long time, just doing what we do as Abdul Gani Ebrahim. The shop isn’t fancy, just a regular place with walls that have seen plenty of years pass by. We usually start the day early, sweeping the front and getting things ready before the heat really kicks in. The traffic on the street can be quite a lot, with handcarts and bikes squeezing through the narrow lanes. Sometimes people stop in just to escape the sun for a minute or to ask for directions to another shop nearby. We don't have a big sign or anything flashy. Most people find us because they’ve been coming here for years or someone told them where to turn off the main road. It’s a simple life here, surrounded by other businesses that have been around just as long. We just keep things moving, one day at a time, watching the changes in the neighborhood from our doorway.
