You can find us at Kahanpur 12, which is where 5 Star Sweets has been operating for quite some time now. Despite the name, we aren't some luxury establishment with marble floors and gold trim. It’s a regular shop with a big kitchen in the back where the real work happens. Making sweets is a long, slow process that involves a lot of stirring over hot flames. Your arms get tired after a few hours of moving a heavy wooden paddle through thick milk and sugar. We don't use any of those modern pre-made mixes you see in the grocery stores. Everything is done the old way, which takes more time but it’s just how we learned to do it. The front of the shop has a glass display case that we try to keep clean, though fingerprints always seem to find their way onto it by midday. Festivals are our busiest times, and during those weeks, we’re often here until midnight trying to keep up with the demand. The rest of the year is a bit slower, giving us a chance to catch our breath and fix anything that broke during the rush. We have a few benches for people to sit on while they wait, and the walls are decorated with a few old calendars. It’s a simple setup, run by people who have been doing this for years. We just show up every day, start the fires, and get to work until the sweets are ready.
