Star Stonex

Our office is on the fourth floor of Vijayshree Apartment, which is right across from the Law College in KK Nagar. It’s a bit different from other stone shops because we are up in an apartment building rather than a ground-floor yard. We have most of our samples laid out on tables and in small racks so people can see the different types of stone we work with. The view from the window is mostly the college building and the trees along the road. It’s a bit quieter up here than down on the street level, which is nice when we are trying to do the paperwork. Star Stonex is run by just a few of us. We spend a lot of time on the phone with the suppliers or the transport guys trying to figure out where the trucks are. When a customer comes in, we sit down and go through the small pieces of marble and granite we keep here. It’s more of a place for planning and choosing colors rather than heavy lifting. The heavy stuff stays at the warehouse until it’s time to deliver it to the site. We don't have a big sign outside the building, so you have to look for the apartment name. It’s a fairly simple setup. We don't go in for fancy carpets or expensive furniture. It’s just a place to work and talk to people about their flooring needs. We try to keep things relaxed.
