Bagath Stone

Bagath Stone is located at 211/01 on the Bye Pass Road in Bethaniyapuram. It’s a wide-open yard mostly filled with different types of stone. You can’t really miss it if you’re driving by. We spend a lot of time outside, regardless of whether it’s sunny or raining. Stone is heavy and hard to move, so we use whatever equipment we have to get it positioned right. The air usually has a bit of grit in it from cutting and moving the slabs. We aren't really the type to wear suits or sit in air-conditioned offices. Most of us are in work clothes that have seen better days. We get a lot of people stopping by who are building houses or fixing up their gardens. They walk around the piles and point at what they like. It’s a very hands-on process. Sometimes we have to wait for new loads to come in from the quarries, which can take a few days. We just sit in the small shack we use as an office and wait for the trucks. It’s a quiet enough spot on the edge of Bethaniyapuram. We don't have a website or anything like that. If someone wants stone, they usually just show up and talk to us. We’ve been doing this for a long time and we’re happy with how things are. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from morning till evening. There's always more stone to move and more people to talk to.
