Jai Meenakshi Granite

Our place, Jai Meenakshi Granite, is located out on the Shiv Gangai Main Road. We are in a village called Poovanthi, which is in the Shiva Ganga district. If you are coming from Madurai, it is about an 18-kilometer drive to get to us at No. 87/5- A. It is a bit of a trek if you are used to being in the middle of the city, but we like it out here. The air is a little clearer, even if the road gets busy with buses and lorries heading out of town. Being 18 kms from Madurai means we have plenty of room for the granite blocks and slabs to be spread out. We don’t have to worry about the cramped streets you find in the center of the city. Most of the day is spent out in the yard. It can get very hot under the sun, so we try to get the heavy moving and loading done early in the morning before the heat peaks. Poovanthi is a quiet village for the most part, except for the traffic on the main road. We are just a local business doing our thing with stones. There are no polished floors or air-conditioned waiting rooms here. It’s just a yard full of granite and a small office where we keep the books and the phone. We have been at this spot on the Shiv Gangai road for a while, and it suits us fine.
