Germanus Roof Garden Restaurant

We've been here at the top of the Germanus Hotel on Bye Pass Road for quite a while now. Most people know us because we are right near the Mappillai Vinayakar Theatre, which is a big landmark in Madurai. Being a roof garden restaurant means you get a bit of a breeze in the evening, which is nice because this city gets really hot during the day. We just focus on getting the food out to the tables and making sure people have a place to sit and look at the city lights. It’s not fancy, but the view of the traffic moving below on the road is something to see. You can hear the sounds of the city, but being up here makes it feel a bit further away. Our staff is mostly local guys who have been with us for years. We open up in the evening when the sun starts going down. It’s a bit of a climb or an elevator ride up, but once you're here, it feels alright. We don't have many big decorations, just some plants and tables. Sometimes the wind picks up and we have to move things around, but that's just how it is when you're on a roof. People come here after work or sometimes families show up on weekends. We just try to keep things moving and make sure everyone gets their water and their plates on time. It's a simple spot on a busy road.
