Up here in the mountains of Kullu, specifically in the 175101 area, we run Sher E Pujab. The air is thinner and a lot cooler than what you find down in the cities, and that definitely changes how we live and work. It’s a small family operation with just a few of us helping out. We’ve been here through all kinds of weather, from the busy summers when the tourists arrive to the very quiet and cold winter months when the snow sits on the roof. The building we use is quite simple, just sturdy enough to handle the Himalayan climate. Inside, we have a basic setup for anyone who is passing through this part of the state. It isn't the kind of place with printed menus or fancy napkins. We usually just tell people what we’ve made for the day. The kitchen is always the busiest part of the house, smelling of spices and wood fire. We spend our mornings getting the wood ready and prepping the food before the first travelers show up. Sometimes the electricity goes out when a storm hits, so we keep plenty of candles around. It’s just how things are in Kullu. We don't spend any money on ads or making the place look like a hotel. We just make sure the food is hot and the tea is strong. People stop by, eat their fill, and then continue on their journey.
