You can find Sunabeda Farmer Producer Company Limited over at Dumuriput. We’re based at Sanjukta Majhi’s place. Being in the Koraput district means we deal with a lot of different kinds of terrain and weather. Our group is made up of farmers from around the Sunabeda area. We started this because it felt like we were all struggling with the same problems separately. Now, we try to handle things as a unit. We help each other with getting seeds and selling what we grow. The office is a simple place, not much to look at, but it’s where the important decisions happen. We don’t have any fancy suits or corporate talk here. Most of us come in straight from the fields, so there’s often a bit of mud on the floor. We spend our time talking about the crops and how to get them to the market without losing too much value. It’s tough work and the hours are long, especially when it’s time to harvest. We aren't trying to be the biggest company out there. We just want to make sure the local folks here in Dumuriput have a fair shot at making a living. We take it one day at a time and try to learn from the seasons. It’s just us, the land, and a lot of hard work. That is all we really do.
