Our office is over in Chatua, which is in the Padua Block of Nandapur, right here in the Koraput area. Gumma Bhairabi Farmer Producer Company Limited is the name on the papers, but to most people, we’re just the group that helps with the farming around Pottangi. It’s beautiful out here, but the hills and the weather can make farming a real challenge sometimes. We spend a lot of time traveling between the different plots to see how things are growing. It’s not a desk job, that’s for sure. We deal with all the local farmers who are part of the group. We try to get the best seeds we can and share the tools that some people might not be able to afford on their own. Our space in Chatua is pretty simple. It’s where we keep the records and where people come to talk about their crops. There’s usually a pot of tea going and someone complaining about the monkeys or the rain. We aren’t a big corporation with a lot of rules. We just try to be practical. If someone needs help with a harvest, we see who is available. It’s about sticking together in a place like this. We do our best with what we’ve got, and mostly, it works out okay for the farmers in our circle. We just keep moving forward one season at a time.
